Settling into Early Years

Early years children have settled in amazingly well to life at Alderwood Infant School. They have been exploring phonics and maths as well as developing their social skills and working on their motor skills. They have made lots of new friends and they are growing in confidence every day!

The children had a chance to make their own pieces of poppy art work for Remembrance Day which we have proudly displayed in our class windows.

Now we are hard at work practising for our Nativity Play which involves lots of singing and actions and even a few lines for some children to say. We have been practising using our big, loud voices on the stage. We hope we will see you all for our performances soon!

Year 2 2017

In a Land of Magic

In the Autumn term we have been learning about fairy tales and Kings and Queens.
We had great fun on our trip to Windsor Castle where we learnt about the features of castles and how they have changed over the years.

We also enjoyed finding out about gargoyles and even got to make our own ones out of clay.

In the classroom we looked closely at different fairy tales and wrote our own mixed up versions. We also learnt about the Hampshire Ridgeback Dragon and then used our imagination to create our own dragon and write a report on it.

Year 1 2017

Dinosaurs

In the Autumn term we had fun learning about dinosaurs.
We made amazing dinosaurs at home using different 3D shapes and in school we named and used 2D shapes to make dinosaur collages.

In the classroom we looked closely at different fossils and we particularly liked the enormous ammonite we found.  Later we used clay to make our own fossils and practised our sketching skills when drawing the fossils.

Thank You FOBS!

FOBS (Friends of Belle Vue School) have given us some money for new golden time toys so Year 2 tested them out for everybody. The toys included new train sets, a police station and new things to go with our fire station. How lucky we are!

We explained to the children that the money we raise from events like the Christmas Fair and Summer Fair help to pay for these brilliant treats. We are very pleased with the new toys and games and can't wait for Golden Time!

Thank you FOBS!

Hockey Finals!

What a great end to our tournament! Although we had a brand new team, everyone gelled extremely well and communicated beautifully which meant we won one of our matches 6-0 (against Guillemont.) This was an amazing result because most of our team was made up of year three and four (most schools had year sixes playing!) Unfortunately, we lost our first match to Frogmore 3-0 but narrowly lost our final match 2-1 against Mayhill. Miss Cooke was extremely proud of everyone. Their behaviour and sportsmanship was impeccable which is something Newport prides itself on. Well done once again to:
Luke Goddard, Harrison Mullen, Byron Keeler, Nathan Jones, Caitlin Cook, Ella Bento and Holly Young.

Year 6's Very Own Six Nations Compeition

Tag Rugby Competition 6C vs 6P!

This afternoon, 6C took on 6P in their end of half term tag rugby competition. Showing off all the skills they had learnt over the previous weeks, there were some very close games with lots of children scoring a try for their team.

Throughout the tournament, 4 teams from 6P played against the 4 teams from 6C, showing great sportsmanship and determination to be the best that they can be. It was clear that the children had learnt many new skills over the weeks, developing them as time went on and enjoyed being able to put them in a competitive situation. Who knows, maybe we will see one or two of them competing in the Six Nations in the future!

And now to announce the winners! The team that scored the most points was 6P1 with a massive 12 points after winning every game they played. Closely followed by 6C1 with 9 points and the class who scored the most points collectively was 6P however 6C were only 3 points behind them. A massive well done to both classes who all tried their best to beat their opponents.

Next half term we will be introducing the children to a new sport, pop lacrosse, so make sure your child has their PE kit in school on the correct day as they won't want to be missing this!

Sharing our work

This afternoon all members of year 3 and 4 had the opportunity to share their English work with each other. Year 3 have been learning about newspaper articles and shared some fantastic reports from the Mousehole Cat story. Year 4 have created their own book and adapted The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe story into their own published creative writing.

Amazing Year 2 Writing!

Eva from Lime Class has done a phenomenal piece of writing based on the story of the Pirate Cruncher by Jonny Duddle. Her work has been neatly published and will be on display in our school library for children to read. Mrs Boyton was so pleased she gave her a special 'Be The Best' prize too!

Well done Eva!

Art Day

Year 2 have started the term with an exciting day filled with paint!

First, we learnt about the primary colours and how these mix together to create secondary colours. Next, we learnt how to create tints and tones by mixing white and black paint into a base colour.

We used these colours to make our very own sea scape pictures using images by Monet & Turner as our influences. Here are some of the works in progress - you can see some more on display in school.
