Paired Cricket

Yesterday, Year 6 took part in their first cricket competition against St. Joseph's. The team gelled really well and cheered each other on when we batted first. We scored some great runs, including a magnificent four! Our fielding was fantastic. A special mention goes to Harry Moore for his superb bowling and Naeem Rahman for an epic catch! Although we did not win our first match, Miss Cooke was extremely proud of the team who demonstrated determination and courage. Thank you to all of the parents for your continued  support.

Supporting Our Home Team - Aldershot FC

Guarding The Shots

Earlier today, 22 of our sports leaders and assistants coaches were lucky enough, not only to attend Aldershot FC's last home game of the season, but also take part in the Guard of Honour that welcomed the teams onto the pitch.

Having each been given a flag to wave, the children formed two lines to create a tunnel, which the players then passed through as they headed out for their crucial game. Although some children got slightly wet by an unexpected sprinkler, the children looked very smart in our Alderwood sports kit.

Once our responsibilities were over, we took our seats in the Community Stand to watch a rather tense game, where Aldershot needed to win to keep their play off hopes alive. Part way through the second half, Barrow took the lead, however, Aldershot scored shortly after to equalise. Despite many chances at goal, the game ended as a draw.

Even though it wasn't the result we were hoping for, we still had a fantastic afternoon and the children behaved exceptionally well.

I would like to thank the parents for taking the time to drop off and collect their children as well as thanking the members of staff who attended the game and made the trip possible.

Enjoy the rest of your weekends.

Hockey Finals!

What a great end to our tournament! Although we had a brand new team, everyone gelled extremely well and communicated beautifully which meant we won one of our matches 6-0 (against Guillemont.) This was an amazing result because most of our team was made up of year three and four (most schools had year sixes playing!) Unfortunately, we lost our first match to Frogmore 3-0 but narrowly lost our final match 2-1 against Mayhill. Miss Cooke was extremely proud of everyone. Their behaviour and sportsmanship was impeccable which is something Newport prides itself on. Well done once again to:
Luke Goddard, Harrison Mullen, Byron Keeler, Nathan Jones, Caitlin Cook, Ella Bento and Holly Young.

Year 6's Very Own Six Nations Compeition

Tag Rugby Competition 6C vs 6P!

This afternoon, 6C took on 6P in their end of half term tag rugby competition. Showing off all the skills they had learnt over the previous weeks, there were some very close games with lots of children scoring a try for their team.

Throughout the tournament, 4 teams from 6P played against the 4 teams from 6C, showing great sportsmanship and determination to be the best that they can be. It was clear that the children had learnt many new skills over the weeks, developing them as time went on and enjoyed being able to put them in a competitive situation. Who knows, maybe we will see one or two of them competing in the Six Nations in the future!

And now to announce the winners! The team that scored the most points was 6P1 with a massive 12 points after winning every game they played. Closely followed by 6C1 with 9 points and the class who scored the most points collectively was 6P however 6C were only 3 points behind them. A massive well done to both classes who all tried their best to beat their opponents.

Next half term we will be introducing the children to a new sport, pop lacrosse, so make sure your child has their PE kit in school on the correct day as they won't want to be missing this!

Great Year 6 Bake Off

What a fantastic day for Children in Need! First of all I would like to say another big thank you to all of the children (and I am sure parents) who spent a great deal of time baking their show stoppers and cakes for the bake sale. Another big thank you if you brought in some cakes this morning. We managed to raise over £186 just from the bake sale! The finalists for the show stoppers were:

  • Faith Hill and Chloe Blake in 6J
  • Jonathan Coleville in 6P
  • Brooke Hockerday in 6C

The whole school put money in each classes boxes and Jonathan ended up winning! Overall (as a year group) we raised over £250. A big thank you to all parents who gave children money or helped buy/bake cakes. This is a fantastic total and will go towards an amazing charity.

Below are some pictures of everything year 6 have got up to today!
