Supporting Our Home Team - Aldershot FC

Guarding The Shots

Earlier today, 22 of our sports leaders and assistants coaches were lucky enough, not only to attend Aldershot FC's last home game of the season, but also take part in the Guard of Honour that welcomed the teams onto the pitch.

Having each been given a flag to wave, the children formed two lines to create a tunnel, which the players then passed through as they headed out for their crucial game. Although some children got slightly wet by an unexpected sprinkler, the children looked very smart in our Alderwood sports kit.

Once our responsibilities were over, we took our seats in the Community Stand to watch a rather tense game, where Aldershot needed to win to keep their play off hopes alive. Part way through the second half, Barrow took the lead, however, Aldershot scored shortly after to equalise. Despite many chances at goal, the game ended as a draw.

Even though it wasn't the result we were hoping for, we still had a fantastic afternoon and the children behaved exceptionally well.

I would like to thank the parents for taking the time to drop off and collect their children as well as thanking the members of staff who attended the game and made the trip possible.

Enjoy the rest of your weekends.

Explorer Bear

This half term Year R have been following our class bear's journey around the world and learning about each country that he visits.
We have enjoyed learning how to say good morning in lots of different languages and learning facts about each country.

We are really looking forward to our topic next half term which is 'Once Upon a Time'.

Pirate Day!

Everyone in year 2 had a fantastic time becoming pirates for the day to round up our 'Splish Splash Splosh' topic.

We went on an exciting treasure hunt around the school grounds, made our own treasure maps for others to follow and searched for missing items in a scavenger hunt.

At the end of the day we received our pirate passports.

See the gallery section of the website for more photos.

Birdworld come to visit

Year 2 were lucky enough to have Birdworld visit us this half term.

They bought along 6 different animals including a parrot, an owl and a snake.

We learnt lots of fascinating facts about how they are suited to their environment and where they originate from.

We particularly liked the brightly coloured parrot and were inspired to write stories with the parrot as the main character.

Saving Pirate Purplebeard...

Year 2 recieved a letter in a bottle from Pirate Purplebeard. He said he needed help URGENTLY!

The Pirate Cruncher had damaged his ship and he needed help to rebuild a better ship that could float and was ready for battle.

The children worked in teams to create a boat using a range of materials. They had to think about which materials would float and how to ensure the boat remained balanced in the stormy seas.

Once the boats were completed the children tested and evaluated their design.

Can we help Pirate Pete?

We recieved a letter from a pirate who told us he was sick and tired of living at sea. In the letter he told us that he wanted to live somewhere that was not too hot, but not too cold. He wanted to experience different seasons so he didn't get bored and he didn't want to see any monsoons! He asked if we could help him so we set to the challenge.

We have researched different types of weather
to help the pirates. We really enjoyed writing
weather poems and reports on the local weather.

On their way to see use the pirates crash their boat! We had a go at designing a new boat for them. We thought they must be

Aren't we grown up

We have been very busy in year 2 this term!

We have been to Newport Junior School to take part in a science day with year 3. We made our own cup phones and had a go at calling our friends. We also used junk modelling to make our own musical instruments. We had a great time working in teams with children from year 3. We made drums, shakers and even guitars.

We have also been getting ready to leave Belle Vue Infant School and move on to Junior School. We have written about our achievement in year 2 and set goals to achieve in year 3. We have been very busy practicing our Leaver's assembly which we are going to perform to the whole school as well as our families. Even year 6 came down to watch us. We also had a transition morning where we went to Newport School, met our new teachers and did some activities with them.

We managed to make time to have some fun too! We really enjoyed the circus visiting and teaching us some circus skills. We learnt how to spin plates- even when we were standing on one leg! We had a chance to dress up in clown outfits. Finally, we had a go with many different circus props, including a mini bicycle and juggling balls.

In a Land of Magic

Year 2 have been very busy already this year!

We have learnt about the features of castles and their purposes. We worked as a team to build a castle big enough for us to fit inside.

Our visit to Windsor castle made us realise just how ENORMOUS castles are!

We enjoyed the workshop where we got to dress up in a range of costumes and reenact castle invasions, and special cermonies such as awarding a knighthood.

We learnt about why castles have gargoyles and had the opportunity to make our own using clay. We had to push, pull and twist to manipulate the clay into different shapes.
Do you think our gargoyles would scare away the enemy?
