Welcome to Year 2

All the children have had a great start to Year 2 and have really impressed their teachers.

We have had a busy start and got straight back into learning lots of new and exciting things.

In the first week we discovered that there were pictures all over the playground. We soon investigated them and found that they all belonged in a fairy tale. We had a lovely discussion about about the fairy tales that we know really well. In English, we focused on Little Red Riding Hood and have done lots of great descriptive work on the characters.

Well done Year 2 for an amazing first couple of weeks!

Week 7 - PSHE

Year 2 - Week 6 - WOW Wall!

We can't believe this is the last week before the summer holidays.  We had such a busy week last week and we are looking forward to what this week will hold.  Last week we finished our autobiographies and we really enjoyed writing them.  Mrs Slater has received some from the children who will be in her class in September and she has really enjoyed reading them.

We have loved Maths this week, looking at fractions and equivalent fractions.  We have worked so hard.  Our favourite topic has been Geography and we are all confident now where the oceans of the world are and we can name the continents too!

We hope that you're all well, we can't wait to see you in September.  Have a good final week!!

Stay safe from Year 2

We can't believe it's Friday already again!  FIVE weeks we've been at the Junior School and we are really enjoying ourselves!  We can't believe there's only two weeks left until the end of term!  We've had a busy week this week and we've worked really hard in both Maths and English.  In English we have really enjoyed writing our autobiographies (Mrs Slater is going to show our new Year 3 teachers!).

In Maths we have really enjoyed our lessons and we are getting really good at part, part whole.  Towards the end of the week we have been recognising equal parts of a whole and writing unitary fractions.  We've all got so good at it and we're looking forward to Maths next week!

Year 2 - RE

Year 2 - Week 4 - WOW Wall

What a busy week we have had this week!  In English we created our very own missing posters for the animals in Shumba's Big Adventure.  We then planned and wrote our very own sequel to the story, which we really enjoyed.  Today we published our sequels and we got to use the publishing pens again!  We're so ready for Year 3!!

We've learnt so much in Maths this week, we now understand the difference between a tally chart, pictogram and block diagrams - we've really enjoyed this!

We have loved topic this week.  We've loved our music session and Geography, where we learnt all about physical features including Mount Everest, the Sahara Desert, the Amazon Rainforest, Niagra Falls and the River Nile.  We're so excited to see what we'll be learning next week!  Hope you're all well - can't wait to see you all!  From Year 2.

We've been very busy with our topic.  We have drawn our own mini-beasts and researched different countries within the seven continents of the world.  Hope you've had a good week too!  See you soon!  Year 2.

Year 2 Update

Hi there,

We've had a fantastic first week back after half term!  We've moved to the junior site and Mrs Slater is now teaching us.  We have loved reading Shumba's Big Adventure and have really enjoyed asking Shumba questions about his adventure and coming up with different scenarios for the animals.  Hope you all have too!  We've been reading scales in maths and working out the difference between different themometers!  We've also looked at animals and how they adapt for their habitat.  It's been a great week and we can't believe it's nearly the w/e.

Hope you're all well.  We miss you!  See you soon!!

Year 2 Update

Year 2 have worked as a team to finish a tricky jigsaw of the world. It has 250 pieces! They used an atlas to work out where the countries are with the help of Sunny the Meerkat. Miss Croud played a game with us to spot the continents and countries, and we found Uganda straight away!

Year 2 Update

Good afternoon everyone!

We have had lots of fun at school this week. At the start of the week we really enjoyed reading the 'Flip Flap Jungle' book. Miss Jones read out the description of each animal and we had to guess which animal she was describing which was great fun. We also enjoyed creating our own animals and coming up with interesting names for them. I have put a picture of one of the pieces of work below for you to see. In maths we have been brushing up on our mental maths skills and practised our doubles and halves to 20. We then went on to solve simple adding number sentences that involved 'near doubles', such as 4+5 or 10 + 11.

We hope you are all well and staying safe!

Year 2 Update

Hello Year 2!

We are celebrating V E Day today with lots of fun activities at school. We have learnt what VE day means and why we are celebrating, as it is 75 years since the end of World War II. We all went out to the playground at 11 o'clock for a 2 minute silence to remember those who lost their lives.  We are having a picnic lunch today so we have been very busy painting our bunting and created our own flags to wave and celebrate!

We hope you are enjoying the sunshine. Don't forget to email the year 2 teachers as we love seeing all the fun things you have been up to!

Miss Croud 🙂

Year 2 Update

Hello Year 2!

We have had a very fun week so far with Miss Croud and Mrs Slater! We have read Handa's Surprise and it inspired us to write a diary entry about our journey to Akeyo's village. Sunny the Meerkat read them and he was extremely happy with our work! Do you like his new outfit?
We have also been learning about Kampala in Uganda. We pretended to be pilots and worked out our flight path from England to Uganda using an Atlas. We had lots of fun and Miss Croud enjoyed being a passenger on our aeroplane.

Don't forget to send us your work as we would love to see it!

Year 2 Update

Hi everyone!

We have had lots of fun in Year 2 this week with Miss Jones and Miss Davis. We've been doing lots of estimating in maths and in English we've written some really interesting zoo stories with all sorts of animals that need some help from the vet!

We've also created some super animal prints in art - you'll have a chance to do this at home in the next couple of weeks! In science we have learnt about prey and predators and researched different animals to discover how they have adapted to be successful at this.

Take care and stay safe!
