Year 2 Update
Good afternoon everyone!
We have had lots of fun at school this week. At the start of the week we really enjoyed reading the 'Flip Flap Jungle' book. Miss Jones read out the description of each animal and we had to guess which animal she was describing which was great fun. We also enjoyed creating our own animals and coming up with interesting names for them. I have put a picture of one of the pieces of work below for you to see. In maths we have been brushing up on our mental maths skills and practised our doubles and halves to 20. We then went on to solve simple adding number sentences that involved 'near doubles', such as 4+5 or 10 + 11.
We hope you are all well and staying safe!

Year 2 Update
Hi everyone!
We have had lots of fun in Year 2 this week with Miss Jones and Miss Davis. We've been doing lots of estimating in maths and in English we've written some really interesting zoo stories with all sorts of animals that need some help from the vet!
We've also created some super animal prints in art - you'll have a chance to do this at home in the next couple of weeks! In science we have learnt about prey and predators and researched different animals to discover how they have adapted to be successful at this.
Take care and stay safe!

The Invisible String
This is a lovely comforting story for all of us who are missing people we love: maybe grandparents, friends, family, teachers (and pupils!).

Easter Week 2
Hello Everyone!
I wanted to let you all know what we've been up to at school during the second week of the Easter holidays. Well done to all of you for staying at home and doing lots of different learning activities as well as having some fun I hope! All of the teachers at school are missing you lots!
Miss Jones, Miss Hyde, Miss Oliver, Mrs Bartram and Mrs Smith have been doing lots of different activities with the children this week. We have been doing Easter egg hunts and even planted some sweetcorn and runner beans. We have been making sure that we water them everyday to help them to grow. We also did some singing practise with Mrs Smith which was really fun. On Tuesday we made a tiny campfire and toasted marshmellows to make s'mores with the science teacher from the senior school. I have attached a photo for you to look at.
Take good care everyone!

Easter Holiday Week 1
Hello Everyone!
We thought it would be a nice idea for us to share what we've been doing over the first week of the Easter holiday! First, we wanted to say a massive well done to everyone for all the hard work you've done at home over the last few weeks. We know it's a really strange time for everyone, but you're doing amazingly well!
Mr Jones, Ms Cooper, Miss Croud and Mrs Vaughan have been at school this week, making the most of the sunshine and completing some fun activities with the children. We've been playing games, building dens, finding Easter eggs and even painting something special to show our appreciation for the NHS workers. Each day, the children have painted a different colour of the rainbow on large pieces of paper. Once they had finished, we put them all together to make one, beautiful picture, that we have displayed outside of Early Years. Here is a picture for you to have a look at!
We hope you have a great Easter weekend!

Spring Term - Year 4
The past few weeks have been very busy in Year 4!
We visited Farnham Museum and discovered even more interesting facts about Anglo-Saxon life. We learnt about the different types of food that Anglo-Saxons ate, and we all tried some bread that was made using a real Anglo-Saxon recipe!
We also got the chance to be archaeologists, and we worked as a group to search through a sand pit to find ancient Anglo-Saxon artefacts. It was such a fun trip that we all really enjoyed – some of us even got to dress up in Anglo-Saxon clothing!

We are currently working really hard to make Viking Longboats, and are looking forward to showing you them!

Year 4 Begins....
It has been an exciting week in Year 4 this week as our brand new cohort of pupils have settled in brilliantly. It has been great to see all our pupils looking incredibly smart as they have walked into school in the morning!
Already this week, we have begun exploring place value in maths lessons, learning all about the thousands column on the place value chart. English lessons have seen the exploration of Baba Yaga- a Russian folktale which has included acting out the story in small groups.
We are excited to start swimming lessons which begin on Monday next week!

Supporting Our Home Team - Aldershot FC
Guarding The Shots
Earlier today, 22 of our sports leaders and assistants coaches were lucky enough, not only to attend Aldershot FC's last home game of the season, but also take part in the Guard of Honour that welcomed the teams onto the pitch.
Having each been given a flag to wave, the children formed two lines to create a tunnel, which the players then passed through as they headed out for their crucial game. Although some children got slightly wet by an unexpected sprinkler, the children looked very smart in our Alderwood sports kit.
Once our responsibilities were over, we took our seats in the Community Stand to watch a rather tense game, where Aldershot needed to win to keep their play off hopes alive. Part way through the second half, Barrow took the lead, however, Aldershot scored shortly after to equalise. Despite many chances at goal, the game ended as a draw.
Even though it wasn't the result we were hoping for, we still had a fantastic afternoon and the children behaved exceptionally well.
I would like to thank the parents for taking the time to drop off and collect their children as well as thanking the members of staff who attended the game and made the trip possible.

Day for Change
Today we have been raising money for Day for Change.
Our challenge was to collect enough change to cover the map of the United Kingdom on the school playground. The school council took charge, ably assisted by children from Early Years, and used the coins to cover the map. Thank you everyone for your generosity. As soon as we have counted all the money we will let you know how much we have raised. This may take a while!!
All the change we have collected will go directly to UNICEF's children’s emergency fund to save and protect children affected by emergencies around the world.
By donating your change today you have helped to keep even more children safe from danger around the world.

Everybody worked together to lay out all the coins - it was great fun! |
Then we had to pick them all up again - well done everyone! |
We all had filthy hands by the end but it was all for a good cause! |
