Building Work!

As lots of our parents will have seen, the builders have been busy working on part of our outdoor area. We are very excited to see the progress - they have even been out working in the pouring rain! It has been exciting to see the different machines moving about. We look forward to it being finished so we can have even more space to play outside.

Down on the Farm

We can't believe it but we are in our last half term of Early Years! This year has flown by so far and the children have grown up so much and are almost ready to move to year 1.

This half term we are learning about out topic 'Down on the Farm'. We are looking forward to our first school trip next week to Bocketts Farm. To get ready we will be learning about things that are grown on farms, the types of animals you might find on a farm and about how animals change from being babies to adults.

Our new role-play areas are farm shops so we can practise writing shopping lists and using real coins to pay for our shopping.

New Role Play Areas!

Written with help by children in Maple Class - typed by Mrs Woodward.

The new role play is a farm shop.  We cut paper for the shop. I cut up a piece of paper with cheese on the paper.

We need to get some things to sell like eggs and milk. We need a shopkeeper. We need to get a till for the money. We need some cards for the people to have for a receipt.

Our caterpillars are growing!

Our caterpillars are changing!

Most of them have hung in their chrysalises already - we still have one or two that are making the change and sadly a couple that didn't make it but we spoke about how this happens in nature and how perhaps they wouldn't have been strong enough to turn into butterflies.

The children have been doing lots of writing talking all about the changes they can see happening and noticing the differences between some of the chrysalises. They have been slower than other years to change this far so we are still crossing our fingers that they will be ready to release before the half term - if not, Miss Wiseman has helpfully offered to take some home to film for us.

Creepy Crawlies

This half term, year R will be learning all about our new topic...Creepy Crawlies!

Before we broke up for the Easter break, the children spent some time at the art table creating their own minibeasts for our classroom displays - we gave them pictures of the minibeasts and they chose the materials they wanted to use to create their own.

As part of this topic, we have had a very special delivery... we have had caterpillars delivered to each class! We will be looking after our caterpillars and watching them as they make their change into being butterflies. We have already learnt about the life-cycle of a butterfly and can't wait to see ours grow up!

Here are two of our caterpillars - Eric and Albie. We will keep you updated on the progress of our new friends!

Fairy Tale Ball

To celebrate how hard we have all worked this half term, we had our very own fairy tale ball! We got to dress up as different characters from stories we know and show off our awesome moves on the dance floor!

We even got to use the green screen (which the junior site helpfully lent us) with the iPad to take photos as if we were in a story setting and not in our hall. We hope you like looking at the photographs as much as we did.
