Knock Knock Who's There?

In Year 1 this half term we have enjoyed finding out about different houses and homes. This week we had lots of fun making homes out of different materials.

We used paper, cardboard, tin foil, leaves, plastic, material and we also put up 2 tents. We thought about which of these homes would keep us warm, dry and safe.

In our art lessons we worked carefully to make houses from clay.  We used different tools to make the patterns of our bricks and roof tiles.  Then we painted and varnished them.

Welcome to Early Years!

Welcome to Early Years!

We have been settling well into our new classes in Early Years. There have been lots of exciting activities for us to do, both inside and out, as we have had fun learning through play.

This half term our topic is 'Good to be Me'. Each week our class bear comes to visit us and helps us to find out new things. So far we have painted self-portraits, drawn pictures of our families, talked about the things we are good at, learnt about our bodies and explored using our senses.

We have all talked about how to be happy, safe and good at school and made a class charter to help us remember.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be looking at how we can stay healthy, growing up and celebrating bear’s birthday! He’s very excited because he’s going to be five!

Our day at Hillier Gardens

This half term Year 1 have been learning all about plants and flowers and what they need to grow so on Tuesday we took a trip to Hillier Gardens near Romsey.  Everyone came to school in their wellingtons and raincoats prepared for the bad weather but luckily it only rained for a couple of minutes - thank goodness.

Jackie, Carla and Dawn took us around the gardens and played lots of exciting games with us.

We pretended to be tiny seeds growing into beautiful flowers to attract bees and detectives finding petals and leaves to match the colours on our palettes.  We also played the seed survival game talking about the different things that sometimes stop seeds from growing.

Everyone had a great time.

Our trip to Bocketts Farm Park!

Last week year R went on an adventure to Bocketts farm.
Being a working farm, there were lots of baby animals to see including lambs, kids, piglets and a calf.
Here is a Ewe feeding her day old lamb, we found out that baby animals need milk for nutrition just like we did as a baby!

We cheered for our favourite pig during an exciting pig race and even had a tour on a tractor trailer ride!

We saw Gertie the goat being milked and we even got to handle some small animals.

Art Week

On the last week of term we had lots of fun making pictures and models during our art week. Our theme was the Olympics.

We looked at the Olympic rings and designed our own clay tiles based on these. We created posters to promote the Olympics.

We worked with an artist to produce colour block pictures using stencils.

Super Sandwiches!

Last week Year 2 were busy writing detailed sets of instructions. One of our tasks was to design a sandwich for a famous person. We tried to be healthy and creative. Some children mixed some very interesting flavours together, such as strawberry and cheese!! As we were cutting the sanwiches we thought about whether we were cutting into halves or quarters.
