Welcome back to school!

Welcome to Year 1!

Even though it has been just four weeks since we started in Year 1, we have settled in brilliantly and have been very busy finding out about houses and homes in our 'Knock, Knock! Who's There?' topic.

We have written our own stories about the adventures of the 'Three Little Pigs' in our English lessons. Whilst in Mathematics we have been adding and subtracting. We have discovered some amazing scientists whilst finding out about materials and their properties and we are looking forward to investigating different materials during our den building day in two weeks time!

We have worked together to create collage houses and we found different ways of changing the shape of paper to make colourful 3D sculptures.

String quartet

On Tuesday 15th July 2014 we had a special visit from a string quartet.

The musicians played violins, a viola and a cello. It was interesting to hear how the sound became deeper as the instrument became larger.

We learnt about 'The Four Seasons' by Vivaldi.

They taught us about dynamics in music. We learnt that forte means to play music loudly, and piano means to play quietly.

The quartet played us several pieces of music. They were incredibly talented and we were amazed by their performance.

Year 2 at Marwell Zoo

Despite the rain we had lots of fun at Marwell Zoo.  For our 'On Safari' topic we wanted to find out more about animals that live in Africa. During the day we visited the giraffe house, the leapord enclosure and the meerkat mound.

We had to look really hard to spot the cheetah but we had no trouble finding the rhinos.

In the workshop we met more creatures. If we were really brave we touched a snake and a very large stick insect. We investigated different animal skins and sorted them into fur, scales and feathers.

Legoland!

Last week we visited Legoland! We had so much fun, looking at the different ways that Lego can be used to build different structures.

We took part in a workshop where we were told a story using Lego characters and we then thought about our favourite parts and had a go at making the characters ourselves.

At lunch time, we watched the pirate show, but luckily we did not get splashed!

Before leaving we had some time to have a go on some rides (we couldn't resist!)

Later in the week we wrote reports about Legoland and had lots of information to share. If you want to find out more, come and see our work!

In a Land of Magic

In a Land of Magic!

On Thursday 27th February, Year 2 visited Windsor Castle as part of our topic on knights and castles - it was amazing!

It was a beautiful sunny day and we were able to take our time looking around the outside of the castle before going in to see the Doll's House and State Apartments.

We were very lucky because the Guard was being changed and we saw the soldiers marching through the castle grounds.

As we walked around the castle we were able to point out the features of the castle that we had learnt about, for example, arrow loops, gargoyles and the crenellations.

We had a fantastic time at Windsor Castle.
