Art Week

Before half term we celebrated arts from around the world in a week dedicated to multi-cultural art work. We went on a journey to Africa, India, China and Australia and created paintings, pots, clay models, music and much more.

We also had the chance to work with visiting artist Rebecca Porter to create two whole school pieces of work.

Early Years and Year 1 printed with shapes and stencils to create African art panels. Year 2 made indvidual collage strips to make up a Kente Cloth.

In Early Years the children reflected on what they had learnt in thier play. The boys in Cherry class had a fabulous time building the Taj Mahal from wooden bricks.

We also had the chance to dress up in a real Sari.

Getting to know ourselves!

Before half term, Birch class sketched their eyes using pencils.
We then added colour using pastels.
Here are some examples of our work. Can you guess which eye belongs to which person?

Mirror Mirror on the Wall.....

Since Christmas, Year 2 have been studying parts of their faces. They have done self portraits using the computer and have also used different tools to draw parts of their faces.

They have now used sketching pencils to finish their faces. They thought about how light and dark the pencils were and matched them to the tone on the black and white photos of their faces.

Sparks fly in Computer Wizards!

Computer Wizards have been enjoying using lots of different technologies.

"We get to look at interesting websites" - Harry
"We have found out how to use the flipcameras." - Alex
"We used Revelation Natural Art to make our front covers for our folders." - Jack

We used the cameras to take photos of work we did. Here are some we took.

Rocking all over the world!

Electric guitars, drums, keyboards, double basses and lots more.

These were just some of the instruments that the students of the Weydon School Band played at their concert on Thursday. The whole school really got into the music. We were clapping along and having a great time.

Thank you Weydon School Band for helping us celebrate Art week.

Hero meets Villain!

Year 2 have been learning about Little Red Riding Hood through drama. We have been studying dialogue and thinking about how we can create a conversation between 2 characters in a story. We have been working together and using our new flipcam to record our dialogues.

Day for Change 2010

Every day in Mozambique, about 400 children die under the age of five, mainly from preventable diseases. One in two children lack drinkable water and around one in three girls do not get the chance to attend primary school.

Belle Vue school participated in UNICEF's annual Day for Change to raise money to help Mozambique. The school council decided that the one thing they would 'change' about the day was that everyone would wear their pyjamas in exchange for a donation to our Day for Change Fund!
