Dinosaurs

This half term we have been having fun finding out interesting facts about dinosaurs. We found out which dinosaurs were herbivores and which were carnivores.

We know that dinosaurs lived a long time ago because fossils have been found. We made our own fantastic fossils using clay.

In Science we have been thinking about which groups animals belong to including mammals, birds and reptiles. We found out even more when Birdworld came to visit us.

This week is book week and we have been looking at the story "The Dinosaurs are having a party". We have had drama workshops where we acted out the story and created "freeze frames" to tell parts of the story. In English we have been writing our own dinosaur stories.

Can we help Pirate Pete?

We recieved a letter from a pirate who told us he was sick and tired of living at sea. In the letter he told us that he wanted to live somewhere that was not too hot, but not too cold. He wanted to experience different seasons so he didn't get bored and he didn't want to see any monsoons! He asked if we could help him so we set to the challenge.

We have researched different types of weather
to help the pirates. We really enjoyed writing
weather poems and reports on the local weather.

On their way to see use the pirates crash their boat! We had a go at designing a new boat for them. We thought they must be

Aren't we grown up

We have been very busy in year 2 this term!

We have been to Newport Junior School to take part in a science day with year 3. We made our own cup phones and had a go at calling our friends. We also used junk modelling to make our own musical instruments. We had a great time working in teams with children from year 3. We made drums, shakers and even guitars.

We have also been getting ready to leave Belle Vue Infant School and move on to Junior School. We have written about our achievement in year 2 and set goals to achieve in year 3. We have been very busy practicing our Leaver's assembly which we are going to perform to the whole school as well as our families. Even year 6 came down to watch us. We also had a transition morning where we went to Newport School, met our new teachers and did some activities with them.

We managed to make time to have some fun too! We really enjoyed the circus visiting and teaching us some circus skills. We learnt how to spin plates- even when we were standing on one leg! We had a chance to dress up in clown outfits. Finally, we had a go with many different circus props, including a mini bicycle and juggling balls.

Summer Term in Year One

We are having lots of fun in year one this summer term. We have tried lots of new activities.
The fire service visited us and we learnt how to stay safe. It was fun driving the fire engine and putting out fires with the hoses.

During a visit from the circus we learnt lots of new skills. We were really determined to juggle, spin plates and even ride a unicycle.

As part of our Flower Power topic, last week we went on our trip to Hillier Gardens. We played lots of games to find out more about how plants grow.

We're all going on a minibeast hunt!

Year R have been out and about looking for minibeasts.  They hunted around the school grounds looking in hedges, under logs, by the pond and in the woods.  All sorts of creepy crawlies were discovered!

Reception Bocketts Farm Trip

On Tuesday 12th May all 3 Reception classes went to Bocketts farm.
We had a fantastic day exploring the farm and seeing all the animals. There was lots to see and do, and loads of fun was had by everyone!

The children really enjoyed seeing all the big animals and their babies in the Big Barn. The goats were very eager to say hello!

We cheered loudly for our pigs to win in the pig race.

We went on a very bumpy tractor ride and saw lots of animals in the fields. We even saw London in the distance as it was such a beautiful day.

We saw a goat being milked and felt the milk to see how warm it was, we were surprised by how warm it was!
There was an opportunity for us to meet some baby animals as well. We were very gentle whilst we said hello.
At the end of the day we had some free time to have a go on the amazing slides.

Everybody had a wonderful time, and it was lovely for the children to see in real life what they had been learning about this half term.
