Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Early Years wish you a Happy Chinese New Year as we have travelled to China!

We have had lots of fun this week learning all about Chinese cultures and beliefs as we celebrate Chinese New Year. We have talked about the Chinese symbols of good luck - the colour red, tangerines and gold coins. We have created dragon dances and listened to Chinese music. We have practised our scissor skills, cutting along a straight line to make a Chinese lantern. In Literacy, we have written Happy New Year cards and described the dragon hidden in the egg. We have been practising adding two sets of objects and finding the total amount. If the dragon gave you an envelope with 4 coins in and then added two more, how many would there be?

Fire! Fire! Fire!

Year 1 had lots of fun hopping on board the fire engine which came to our school as part of our topic Fire! Fire! Fire!
The fire fighters talked to us about keeping safe at home.  We learnt the rhyme
'Get out.  Stay out.  Call 999'
to help us remember what we need to do to stay safe if there is a fire.

Welcome to Africa!

Welcome to Africa! This week we are learning all about Africa and the animals that live there. We travelled by boat from Italy. We went on a Safari and talked about the different animals and their patterns. We looked at non-fiction books to find out interesting information about the animals and then wrote our own fact sheet, practising writing the words ‘it’, ‘is’ and ‘has’ without an adult when describing the animal.

We painted pictures of the animals and made masks for our jungle. We used the animal bus to help us count how many passengers were on the bus and how many would be left if one got off.
What country could we be going to next week?

Bonjour! Early Years are in Europe!

This week we have travelled to Europe - looking closely at France and Italy. We discussed the similarities and differences between our school and a school in France that Miss Harris visited. We decided we are very lucky at Belle Vue because we have computers and toys in our classrooms everyday.

We looked at the special buildings in France and Italy and used 3D shapes to recreate them. We talked about the foods that have come from the countries and wrote our own menus for our restaurant in the shared area. We even had the chance to make our own cheese and tomato pizza! Yum!

Around the World in 30 Days!

This half term Early Years are going on a journey around the world.  We will be 'travelling' using different kinds of transport and exploring a variety of countries to learn about their cultures and beliefs.  This week we are preparing for our journey, writing a list of what we need to pack and counting items into a suitcase.  In our shared area, we can role-play being in an aeroplane and go to the clothes shop to buy clothes for different weathers.  I wonder which country we will go to first...
