Go! Rhino visit Friday 15th March

This year at Belle Vue we are taking part in the Go! Rhinos project in partnership with Marwell Zoo.

On Friday we all enjoyed a visit from Francesca Smith who is the Marwell Outreach Officer and works closely with the endangered species at the zoo.

The children found out lots of interesting information about the animals and how we can help them.

We learnt that some rhinos have 2 horns and some only have 1.

Francesca told us how big the rhinos are, and how they would not fit into one of the Early Years quiet rooms!

We looked at lots of animal artefacts including: skins, eggs and a skull and we had to match them to the correct animal.

We also learnt lots about the rainforest. We all pretended to be tall trees under the camouflage net, while Francesca sprayed us with water to teach us about the climate!

Here is our rhino which we will be painting during art week 2013!

Thank you for all of your design entries Miss Harris has over 100 to look at! As you can imagine making one decision was tough so we have decided to use a mixture of ideas from lots of children.

The design will be bright, colourful and fun using rainbow colours and every child will turn a fingerprint into their face.

Each class will be within a circle of colour based on the idea by David Fernando in Hazel class.

You can see the final design in the library alongside the rhino.

The visit has created a real buzz about the project and we can't wait to get started! Don't forget to check out the website for more details about the trail in Southampton during the summer holidays:   Click here to go to the GoRhino website.
