Once upon a time...

Once upon a time in a town called Aldershot there was a school called Belle Vue Infants and all of the children in Reception had been learning all about fairytales...

We learnt about the 'Elves and the Shoemaker' ... We even had some helpful elves come into our classrooms and help us to tidy up! We designed some shoes to help the Elves and we looked at the different materials of shoes and even tried some on!

We read the story of 'Hansel and Gretal' and decorated some houses using sweet wrappers and different materials around the classroom, we also used the sweets to do some simple adding and subtracting during our number times.

Then we read 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears.' Our role play areas were transformed into the three bears' cottage and we were able to act out the story. We also had great fun looking at porridge this week...(sorry for the extra washing of our uniforms!) We started to look at basic capacities and how we could make containers full, half full or empty. We had lots of
fun filling and emptying bottles, spoons, bowls and cups.

Last week we looked at the story of 'The Gingerbread Man'. We all measured, mixed and rolled the dough to make our gingerbread men and fortunately while our teachers were cooking them they didn't run away! We used icing and decorations to finish our gingerbread men and then we were all allowed to take them home and eat them one bit at a time just like the sneaky fox in the story!

This week we are learning about the 'Three Billy-Goats Gruff', we will be using the trim-trail in our playground to re-enact the story 'trip, trap, trip, trap...'.

We have had a great half-term and have learnt lots about the different traditional tales. We have been very busy building castles and making puppet shows.

Have a good rest over the Easter holidays...and don't eat too many chocolate eggs!
