Year 2 Update from Year 2 Teachers

Hello Year 2!

We wanted to post a quick update to share what we’ve been doing over the past few weeks at school. All of the Year 2 teachers are missing you all very much and it’s been extremely strange being at school without you all there with us. We are sure that you’ve all been working hard at home and having lots of fun.

During the first week, Mr Jones and the children spent a lot of time out in the garden helping Mr Allcroft. We did some planting, watering and even decorated the garden. We painted flowers, made butterflies and hung bees from the shelter! We used all of these activities to help us with some writing too. We created stories about bees, wrote letters and we made sets of instructions on how to plant sunflower seeds so the other children could follow them and have as much fun as we did.

During the second week, Miss Jones and Miss Davis helped the children to tell the time to the nearest five minutes. They also used the symbols for greater than, less than an equal to order different amounts of time. In English the children created their very own superheroes with unique costumes and powers and wrote all about them. The children really enjoyed playing board games like scrabble and monopoly to practice spelling and maths skills.

Challenge

Why don’t you try and make something that would look great in a garden? It could be a butterfly or a bee, just like we did. It could be another insect or even a garden gnome!  Once you have made it, write some instructions on how you did it. Remember, your instructions should include: Title, introduction, ‘You will need’ and your steps. Give it a go!

You could also create your very own superheroes – think about their secret identity, their costume and their superpowers! You could then write your own descriptive paragraph to tell someone else all about them!

We also made sure we didn’t miss listening to David Walliams telling us stories from his ‘Worlds Worst Children’ book. You can also listen to him if you click on this link:

David Walliams is reading a story every day for 30 days. Listen, or catch up, here: https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/

We hope that you are all staying safe and hope you have a good holiday!
